Abstract:Expanded polystyrene(EPS)particles are used as aggregates,EPS concrete with a density of 1400 kg/m3 was pre-pared using a pre-coating modification method. The effects of different modification approaches and coating agents on the strength of EPS concrete were systematically investigated. The results indicate that when cement was used as the inorganic coating material and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)solution was employed as the modifier, the EPS concrete exhibited the highest compressive strength, reaching 26.71 MPa at 28 days, which represents a 38.6%increase compared to the unmodified group.Furthermore, the pre-coating treatment effectively mitigated the floating tendency of EPS particles, resulting in a more uniform vertical distribution, particularly in the bottom region. It enhanced the compactness of the interfacial transition zone(ITZ),overcoming the poor adhesion of EPS parti-cles and ultimately improving the compressive strength of EPS concrete.
