Study on thermal stress fatigue damage of concrete under high and low temperature cycling

Abstract:In this paper, the thermal conduction, thermal stress and fatigue damage of panel concrete of Xiangyou pumped storage power station in Fujian Province under high and low temperature cycling from 10 ℃ to 50 ℃ are analyzed by numerical simulation. The results show that the temperature transfer inside the concrete shows a tendency of inhomogeneous transfer and an inhomogeneous temperature gradient is formed. The thermal resistance effect of the cementitious material itself makes its internal temperature change different from the external ambient temperature change in terms of temperature response wave amplitude, extreme value and lag time.Higher stresses are mainly found in the aggregate with a small distance from the aggregate, where the amount of paste is low and tends to generate higher stresses.Damage to concrete under high and low temperature cycling occurs first in the weak interfacial tran-sition zone, then the damage spreads to the mortar matrix. The damage increment in concrete first increases then decreases under cyclic high and low temperature loading.Meanwhile, the numerical simulation results correspond well with the actual test.
