Abstract:The reactivity and volume stability of alkali-activated steel slag were comprehensively improved accounting for four aspects like alkali equivalent, steel slag fineness,high-temperature curing and addition of ultrafine blast furnace slag. The results show that 6%Na2O is beneficial for promoting the dissolution of single-phase f-CaO and the strength development of alkali-acti-vated steel slag specimens. The alkali-activated specimen prepared using steel slag with a median particle size of 9 μm exhibits the optimal mechanical properties and volume stability.Incorporating 40%ultrafine blast furnace slag, which shows the best early digestion effect on single-phase and tri-component f-CaO in steel slag particles, can significantly enhance the specimen strength and meanwhile no volume expansion phenomenon was found in the specimens at the age of 600 days. The high-temperature curing at 80℃is conducive to promoting the digestion of f-CaO while the characteristic peaks of C2F and RO phases exhibit little change.
