Abstract:To enhance the performance of magnesium oxychloride cement(MOC),this study incorporated an inorganic material, laponite(LAP),as a modifying agent. The mechanical properties, and water resistance of the LAP-modified MOC were systematically investigated, and the underlying modification mechanism was thoroughly analyzed by XRD and SEM.The results indicate that the addition of LAP significantly retards the hydration process of MOC,leading to a reduction in early compressive strength. However,it improves both the water resistance and long-term compressive strength of MOC.LAP promotes the growth of the primary hydration product,5Mg(OH)2·MgCl2·8H2O,and modifies its crystal morphology, resulting in coarser and denser formations.Furthermore,LAP effectively delays the hydrolysis of the main hydration products, obstructing the permeation and diffusion of water molecules, and substantially enhances the water resistance of MOC.
