Abstract:There is no unified standard for the geometric dimensions of specimens in rigid polyurethane foam uniaxial com-pression tests, which results in poor generalizability and comparability of the test results. To address this issue, cylindrical speci-mens with different geometric dimensions were prepared, and unconfined compressive strength(UCS)tests were conducted to analyze the effects of material volume, contact area, and height-to-diameter ratio on UCS.The results show that, when the contact area is the same, larger material volumes lead to longer reaction times, lower expansion ratios, and higher unconfined compressive strength. When the material volume is the same, larger contact areas result in shorter reaction times, higher expansion ratios, and lower strength. The maximum unconfined compressive strength is 2.87 MPa when the diameter of the specimen is 87 mm and the height-to-diameter ratio is 1.00.Considering both the difficulty of sample preparation and the test results,a cylindrical specimen with a diameter of 87 mm and a height to diameter ratio of 0.57 is recommended as the standard specimen.
