Abstract:As an agricultural country,China produces a large amount of agricultural waste—rice husk ash(RHA).RHA contains abundant amorphous silica and exhibits strong pozzolanic activity, making it suitable as a supplementary cementitious material to par-tial cement replacement. This not only effectively reduces CO2 emissions but also facilitates the recycling and utilization of RHA.Nu-merous studies have shown that RHA can significantly improve the strength and microstructure of cement-based materials. Its porous structure provides internal curing effects within hydration systems, continuously releasing water to promote the ongoing hydration of cement materials. Thus exhibiting different characteristics compared to other supplementary cementitious materials like silica fume. This paper reviews the physical and chemical properties of RHA,factors influencing its activity, and the hydration mechanisms within cementitious material systems. It also summarizes the current research on RHA's application in cement concrete, geopolymer, and soil stabilization materials, discussing the impact of RHA on the main properties of these materials. The aim is to promote further applica-tion of RHA in the field of building materials.
