Abstract:The effects of MgO on the sintering properties, carbonation properties, and mechanical properties of γ-C2S were sys-tematically investigated. The results show that the addition of a small amount of MgO(0~10%)contributes to the improvement of the self-powdering property of the sintered body.Meanwhile, some of the Mg elements will combine with Ca and Si to produce a new phase of magnesium calcium-silicate(Merwinite).The carbonization results show that the mechanical and carbonation properties of the clinker system were optimal when the doping of MgO was 1%,in which the compressive strength reached 91.07 MPa,which was 37.09%higher than that of the blank group, and the corresponding CO2 sequestration also reached 258.29 g/kg.This may be attributed to the fact that the Mg element improved the carbonation reaction activity of γ-C2S,and the new phase Merwinite phase also exhibit-ed better carbonation activity, which in turn promoted the generation of carbonation products and higher compressive strength.
