Abstract:Dextrin succinate with different degree of substitution(DS)and different weight average molecular weight(Mw)were synthesized from dextrin and succinic anhydride. The effect of raw dextrin and dextrin succinate on the hydration of cement was investigated by using isothermal calorimetry measurements, compressive strength tests,XRD,TG-DSC and SEM. The results showed that dextrin succinate decreased the peak value of hydration exothermic rate more obvious than raw dextrin. The peak value of hydration exothermic rate decreased with the increasing in DS and Mwof dextrin succinate. Both raw dextrin and dextrin succinate would decrease the early strength of cement mortars, but had no significant effect on the later strength. The results of microstructure tests were consistent with the results of isothermal calorimetry measurements and compressive strength tests. The initial hydration of cement was delayed by the addition of dextrin and dextrin succinate, but the final hydration was not affected.
