Effect of polycarboxylate superplasticizer with hydrophobic side chains on air content of concrete

Abstract:Hydrophobically modified block polyether was prepared by ring opening polymerization of prenyl alcohol with propylene oxide and epoxy ethylene, and therefore copolymerized with acrylic acid and methyl allyl sulfonic acid by free radical copolymerization to synthesize a water reducing agent with hydrophobic modification side chains. The influence of the molar ratio of acrylic acid to modified polyether and the number of hydrophobic segments on the cement dispersion ability, surface activity and concrete air content was investigated. It was found that polycarboxylate superplasticizer with hydrophobic side chains has excellent dispersing ability, and lower surface tension, which can significantly reduce the air content of concrete and increase the compressive strength of concrete.
