Progress on vestibular dysfunction and rehabilitation in posterior circulation stroke

Abstract:Posterior circulation stroke(PCS)often involves the vestibular oculomotor pathway,vestibular spinal cord pathway,vestibular cerebellar pathway,resulting in severe vestibular dysfunction,presenting symptoms and signs such as vertigo,dizziness,nystagmus and unbalance,which affects the quality of life of PCS patients.Vestibular dysfunction manifests with distinct features depending on the location of the lesion.Early identification and intervention can improve vestibular function and promote vestibular compensation.This article reviews the assessment of vestibular function,and characteristics and rehabilitation of vestibular dysfunction in PCS to improve the awareness of central vestibular dysfunction.
