Relationship between treatment compliance and quality of life in patients with primary hypertension
Abstract:BACKGROUND:Treatment compliance has a direct effect on the development and therapeutic result;however,what is the relationship between the compliance and quality of life(QOL) in patients with hypertension?OBJECTIVE:To investigate the relationship between compliance and QOL in patients with hypertension.DESIGN:A retrospective study.SETTING, PARTICIPANTS and METHODS:Questionnaire on treatment compliance and medical outcomes study 36-item short-form health survey scale(MOS SF-36) were used to make the retrospective investigation on the condition out of hospital of 339 patients with primary hypertension.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Evaluation technical marker of QOL was introduced.The correlation was analyzed in accordance with compliance of patients.RESULTS:Drug compliance was positively associated with factors and total scores of QOL (r=0.15-0.21 ,P < 0.05).Following-up in out-patient clinic was negatively related with factors and total scores of QOL (r=-0.11 to-0.13,P < 0.05).Compliance and total score of quitting smoking, and drinking or less drinking, food, exercise and controlling body mass were positively correlated with the factors of QOL(r=0.11-0.21;P < 0.05).Good compliance in drug compliance was 39.80%,followingup of out-patient was 67.30%,non-smoking was 86.70%, compliance of the five QOL was 34.20%,among which, quitting-smoking was 86.70%,alcohol temperance or less drinking were 79.10%,diet was 70.80%,exercise was 68.10%,body mass control was 54.00%.CONCLUSION:Compliance is significantly associated with QOL in pa-tients with primary hypertension.
