Help-seeking pattern of college students during the time of severe acute respiratory syndrome
Abstract：BACKGROUND:Demographic features,personality traits,etc. Are the important influential factors on the likelihood and patterns of help-seeking of college students in their psychological crisis. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the related factors and methods of the help-seeking patterns of college students in the severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS) crisis. DESIGN:Cross-sectional study. SETTING and PARTICIPANTS:A total of 306 college students were randomly selected in a medical school and a non-medical school in Changsha city,with the method of multiple cluster sampling. INTERVENTIONS:Self-edited questionnaire,Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90) and Eysenck personality questionnaire(EPQ-adult) were used. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Help-seeking method and related factors of college students in Changsha during the time of SARS . CONCLUSION:Though non-help-seeking and buying something by oneself for prevention,like vinegar and banlangen,etc.are the main help-seeking patterns of college students in Changsha during the time of SARS.Their help-seeking patterns showed polarization and diversification totally,with difference in majors and sexes.Personality,psycho-characteristics,major,etc.should be considered when guiding college students educationally.
