Multiple factor analysis on the relationship between smoking behaviour, tobacco knowledge of teenagers and media
Abstract:AIM: To understand the relationship between smoking behavior, tobacco knowledge of teenagers and media in China.METHODS: Core questionnaire for the global youth tobacco survey(GYTS)designed and provided by American Disease Control Center was adopted; 11 978students in 200 middle schools in Tianjin, Shandong, Chongqing and Guangdong were drawn by systematic sampling method. The questionnaires were taken back after self-judgnent was carried out.RESULTS: Totally 22.3% of the students had ever tried to smoke and the smoking rate was 4.9%; Cognition on harm of smoking and passive smoking influenced smoking behavior( OR were 1. 74 and 1.58 respectively); Mediaand propagation on banning smoking in social activities could protect smoking behavior( OR were 0.80 and 0.85 respectively) ,smoking images on films and TV, trade-marks of cigarette, advertisements and propagation of cigarette were risk factors on smoking behavior ( OR was 1.59-1.68).CONCLUSION: Media can influence smoking behavior and tobacco knowledge of teenagers, so comprehensive policy architecture on controlling smoking of teenagers should be set up.
