Multichannel cochlear implantations for rehabilitation in 6 prelingually deafened children:a follow-up observation
Abstract:AIM: To explore the therapeutic of multichannel cochlear implantations in prelingually deafened children with severe sensorineural hearing loss. METHODS:Nuclus 24 type artificial cochlea purchased from Cochlear Company in Australia was implanted into 6 prelingually deafened children with severe sensorineural hearing loss.The machine began to run at 1 month after operation. RESULTS:All the 6 patients obtained audile ability after operation,and auditory threshold enhanced to 33 dBHL averagely.The average rate of double syllable speech discrimination socre was 28% at 6 months postoperatively for hearing and lip reading(HLR) and 62% .At 12 months after operation,the rate of SDS reached 51% and HLR reached 74% ,significantly improved compared with those before operation. CONCLUSION:Multichannel cochlear implantations are effective in the recovery of audition of prelingually deafened children with severe sensorineural hearing loss,and has a better effect in younger child.
