The relationship between polymorphism of apolipoprotein E gene and atherosclerotic cerebral infarction in the youth
Abstract:Aim To investigate the relationship between polymorphism of apolipoprotein E(Apo E) gene in young adults patients with atherosclerotic cerebral infarction(ACI) .Methods The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique was used to study the polymorphisms of ApoE gene and allele frequencies in 36 patients with ACI and 100 healthy controls. The levels of the lipid and lipoproteins of serum were also compared among the cases with ACI and the controls. Results The prevalence of the ε 3/4 phenotype, the prevalence of the ε 2/4 phenotype and the frequency of the ε 4 allele in ACI groups were significantly higher than the control subjects (χ 2=4.14,5.09,4.48, P< 0.05). Ε 4 was closely related to higher serum level of TG,TC,Lp(a) and lower serum level of HDL-C.Relative risk of ε 4 and TG,TC,HDL-C,Lp(a) were 8.23,4.85,29.9,4.39(χ 2=16.0,8.76,16.7,7.89, P< 0.01- 0.001).Conclusion The ApoE gene polymorphism is involved in the occurrence and the development of ACI and affects plasma lipid level;ε 4 has a more close relationship with young adult ACI and is a genetic facilitated factor.
