Expression of interleukin-8 in the condyle of temporomandibular joint after indirect trauma
Abstract:Aim In order to understand the roles of interleukin-8 (IL- 8) in the pathogenesis of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) after indirect trauma. Methods A total of 25 healthy immature goats (15 males, 10 females), weighing between 15.0 and 20.0 kg,aging 6.0- 8.0 months, were used in this study. All animals were divided into five subgroups (A, B, C, D, E) including five animals (2 females, 3 males) in each group at random.Trauma to the TMJ in 25 goats was achieved under an impact to the right and left mandibular angle with a self-made device. The goats of A,B,C,D groups were killed at 2 h, 7d,1 month and 3 months after impact respectively. The expression of interleukin-8 in the condyle of TMJ was observed by immunohistoch emical stainning. The normal TMJs of E group were used as controls. Results The positive expression of IL-8 was observed in the condyle of TMJ after indirect trauma. The stronger expression was observed in the destroyed area of condyle. Conclusion IL-8 may play an important role in the pathogenesis of TMJ after indirect trauma.
