Tne effect of overexercise on histology and biomechanics of the long head of bicep tendon
Abstract:Objective To study the influnce of overuse on the shoulder joint disease. Method 24 Sprague-Dawley rats was randomly divided into two groups, and experienced 4 weeks and 8 weeks overuse respectively. Model of overuse of shoulder joint in rats was established.Histology and biomechanics characteristics was measured. Result While the normal having no fibrocartilage change, the overused group had a significent change in histology and biomechanics, some tendon collogen degenerated, ruptuered, and slightly stained in histological sections, and the fibrocytes obviously declined after 4 weeks and 8 weeks. The cells shape changed from spindle shaped cells to more rounded plump cells, and had some fibrocartilage structure. The maximun load and the maximun stress decreased significently(P<0.01), and the rupture location coincided with the degeneration lesion. Conclusion Overuse of shoudler joint can induce degeneration of long head of bicep tendon in rat, and induce a positive role in the causes of shoulder disease.
