The improvement of quality of life of patients with chronic heart failure by metoprolol
Abstract：Objective The study was to assess the effect of metoprolol onquality of life in chronic heart failure(CHF).Method Fifty patients with CHF were randomly divided into two groups.All patients were given conventional therapy for CHF,consisting of digitalis,diuretics,nitrates and ACE inhibitors.Patients in metoprolol group were given metoprolol 6.25～25 mg/d.The BP,HR,LIEF,six minutes walk testing were obsvered.All patients were asked to answer 6 serial questions referring to quality of life(QOL)on a selfdetermining inquiring sheet before and after the treatment.Fifty age-matched normotensive subjects without chronic diseases served as control.Result Normal subjects appeared to have a better QOL in all respects than CHF patients in pretreatment assessment.CHF patients showed an improvement of QOL after treatment of 8 weeks.At the 24th week,the patients of metoprolol group showed a better QOL status control group(P<0.05). Conclusion Metoprolol could improve long-term QOL in CHF patients.
