Repairing ischiadicus nerve defect by slowly stretching the defective nerve with a tissue expander
Abstract:Objective To investigate the feasibility of repairing peripheral nerve defect by slowly streyching the nerve. Method A ischiadicus nerve defect model was extablished with rabbits. The defective nerves were slowly elongated with s tissue expander and repaired by end to end suture. The theraputic effect was evaluated and compared with other repairing method. At the end of experiment, a histological study was done on the sutured nerves. Restilts Compared with autografting the effect of the slowly stretching method wad better, but no statistical difference was found. Conclusion Nerve elongation with a tissue expander for repairing peripheral nerve defect is better than eveongation with nerve autograffing.
