Heterotopic ossification and its prevention following total hip arthroplasty
Abstract:Objective In order to investigate the causes and the preventive methods of the heterotopic ossification following total hip arthroplasty. Methods One hundred and thirty-nine patients who had accepted total hip arthroplasty were divided into three groups randomly. Three were fifty-three patients in group A, forth-nine patients in group B and thirty-seven patients in group C. The patients in group A took vitamin C, in group B took indometacin and in group C took ibuprofen. Results There was notable difference between group A and group B/ group C(P<0.01), and there was no difference between group B and group C(P>0.05) . Conclusion However the heterotopic ossification follwing total hip arthroplasty could be prevented by some medicines, such as indometacin and ibuprofen.
