Multicentric and open study on the effect of trazodone and surazepam on insomnia of depression patients
Abstract:Objective To investigate the hypnotic effect of trazodone on depression patients with insomnia. Method 35 cases with single
episode of depression or depressive phase of bipolar affective disorder accompanied by apparent insomnia and Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) score ≥ 24 accepted four - week treatment with trazodone. Result At the end of trial, total sleeping time, postponement of earlyawakening and frequencies of waking up in sleeping time had significantly improved than those of before the treatment( P < 0.05) in bothgroups. Sleeping factors of HAMD were markedly improved, too( P < 0. 05 or P < 0. 01 ) . The other benefit of trazodone focused on im-proving the deep sleeping. The side effects of trazodone developed no more frequenly than those of surazepam except for dry mouth and
constipation( P < 0. 05). Conclusion It was worth applying the hypnotic effect of trazodone for the improvement of depression patients withinsomnia.
