Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the safety of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) with balloon dilation on elderly bilateral urinary stone patients in the same period. Methods: A total of 354 cases of elderly patients with bilateral upper urinary tract calculi were analyzed, in which PCNL was completed bilaterally in the same period in 129 cases (bilateral same group), and bilaterally by staging PCNL in 225 cases (bilateral staging group).Average operation time, total stone clearance rate, average length of hospital stay, blood transfusion rate, incidence of complications, etc.were compared between these two groups.Result: There was no significant difference in the average diameter, average operation time, total clearance rate, blood transfusion rate and complication rate between the two groups (P>0.05).The length of hospital stay in the bilateral same group was significantly shorter than in the bilateral staging group [(4.89±2.4) days vs.(10.35±2.35) days, P<0.05].Conclusions: Elderly patients with bilateral upper urinary tract calculi treated with PCNL with balloon dilation in the same period is safe and effective with shorter hospital stay without increasing the risk of surgery, compared with bilateral staging surgery.
