Abstract:Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of rod-shape balloon dilation catheter in the treatment of male urethral stricture.Methods:Thirty-six cases of male urethral stricture were divided into two groups on the basis of stenotic segment size:1 7 cases in short group (stenosis ≤1 cm)and 1 9 cases in long group (stenosis >1 cm).The stenotic segment was cut open by cryo-scalpel of urethral endoscope, and then the rod-shape balloon dilation catheter was applied to the stenosis section. Results:All of the operations were performed successfully, and no serious complications occurred. The cure rate of short group was 100% (17/17),and that of long group was 73.7%(14/19),with the difference being statistically significant (P<0.05).The average follow-up time was 1 5 months. The short group was superior to the long group in Qmax and recurrence. Conclusions:The clinical effect of rod-shape balloon dilation catheter in the treatment of male urethral stricture is better, especially for those pa-tients whose stenotic segment size is no more than 1 cm.
