Abstract:Objective:To compare the safety and clinical effects of the flexible ureteroscope lithotripsy vs.per-cutaneous nephrolithotomy lithotripsy for the management of renal stones 2 cm or greater. Methods:We retro-spectively analyzed the records of 60 patients who underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy or flexible ureterosco-py lithotripsy in our hospital from March 2012 to March 2015.In this study 30 patients were given flexible uret-eroscopy lithotripsy, and 30 patients were subjected to percutaneous nephrolithotomy treatment. The operative time, stone clearance rate, hospitalization time and complication rate were compared. The intragroup comparison was done by t-test,and a probability (P)value of less than 0.05 was taken to indicate statistical significance.Re-sults:In flexible ureteroscopy group and percutaneous nephrolithotomy group the stone diameter was (2.0±0.5) and (2.1±0.4)cm (P>0.05),operative time was (58.4±7.7)min and (39.4±7.5 )min, hospitalization time was (7.3±1.6)days and (14.6±1.5)days,and the complication rate was 10.0% and 6.7% respectively.Con-clusions:In comparison to percutaneous nephrolithotomy lithotripsy, the flexible ureteroscopy lithotripsy enjoys a minimal trauma and low complication rate. The flexible ureteroscopy lithotripsy is an alternative treatment in the management of renal stones 2 cm or greater.
