Abstract:Objective:To study the effect of anti-thyroid drug(ATD)on heart rate variation (HRV)in patients with Graves disease(GD). Methods: The HRV of 24 patients with GD was compared with that of 30 normal subjects and the effects of ATD onHRV of the patients were also evaluated. Results: The prevalence of autoromic neuropathy (AN)in GD before treatment(group I) was about 83.3 % and it was about 12.5 % after treatment (group II). There were significant differences of spec-tral index(TFP,PHV,PVV and RVH)between the group I and the control group, and there was no significant differencebetween the group II and the control group. Conclusion: It was possible that the complete damage of autonomic nervous sys-tem function occurred in GD patients before treatment, but the patients obviously recovered after treatment. These changesmight be correlated with the thyroid hormone in blood which stimulated the cardiac autonomic nerves.
