Prevention of Recurrence of Cystic Cancer by Transurethral Submucosal Injection of Mitomycin
Abstract:To evaluate the preventive effect of transurethral submucosal injection of mitomycin on recurrence of cystic cancer. Methods:The effects of transurethral microwave tissue coagulation (MTC) plus submucosal injection of mitomycin and intracystic perfusion on cystic cancer patients (therapeutic group) were compared with those only of intracystic MTC and mitomycin perfusion (control group). Results:Among 83 cases in therapeutic group,78 cases were followed up and 11 cases relapsed in 6-36 months after treatment. Their recurrent rate was 14.1%. Among 47 cases in control group,43 cases were followed up and 17 cases relapsed in 6-24 months after treatment. Their recurrent rate was 39.5% . Conclusion:The submucosal injection of mitomycin has a significant efficacy for improving the curative effect of MTC, reducing cancer recurrence and prolonging the tumor-free interval. This is a simple, easy, safe and effective therapeutic method for cystic cancer.
