Abstract:To analyze therapeutic results of cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) using stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). Methods:During May 1995 to October 1999,29 patients with AVM were treated with SRS. The surface doses on targets were 16~24 Gy (mean:18.7 Gy). The volume-fraction method was used for a big volume target. All the patients were followed-up 6 to 40 months (mean: 17.8 months). Results: Eleven patients were examined with DSA after operation, among whom 4 cases (36.4%) showed complete obliterations,5 eases (45.5%) showed partial obliterations and 2 cases ( 18.2 % ) showed no change. Other 18 patients were examined with MR, among whom 13 cases (72.2 % ) showed significant decreases in AVM volume, and 5 cases (27.8 % ) showed no change. Conclusion:SRS is an effective method of treating AVM. “Focusing radiation, treating all over and volume fraction” may decrease the damage of radiation.
