Stereotactic Conformal Radiotherapy of Extracranial Tumors
Abstract:Objective: To report and analyze the effects of stereotactic conformal radiotherapy for extracranial tumors. Methods:Forty patients with extracranial tumors underwent stereotactic conformal radiotherapy from May of 1997 to July of 1998.The clinical target volume of tumors ranged form 0.2 to 232 cm3 with a mean of 2.97 cm3 , the minimal irradiation dose tothe planning target volume (PTV) was 3.12-11.8 Gy/fraction which was applied within 1-10 times. The maximal irradiation dose to PTV ranged from 4.00 to 15.00 Gy with a mean of 6.63 Gy. The prescribed dose (PD) was 3-12 Gy (mean,5.32 Gy). Results: No patient died during treatment. KPS score ranged from 10 to 90 (mean, 62) before treatment, andfrom 20 to 100 (mean,80) after treatment. Tumor was completely remittent in 9 cases, partly remittent in 23 cases, nochanged in 3 cases, and deteriorated in 5 cases. During the period of follow-up (1-14 months),87.5% of tumors were controlled, and 80% diminished or disappeared. Conclusion: Stereotactic conformal radiotherapy is an effective method in treating extracranial tumors.
