lmage Changes after Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for lntracranial Meningioma
Abstract:Objective:To define image change after gamma knife radiosurgery for intracranial meningioma. Methods:A retrospec-tive analysis of images was conducted in 58 patients with single intracranial meningioma who underwent gamma knife radio-surgery in single session. The volume of meningioma ranged from 0.88 to 35.90 ml with a mean of 10.57 ml preopera-tively. The average dose was 14.27 Gy( 10~20 Gy) to the tumor margin, and the maximal dose was 29.04 Gy(22.5~40Gy). Isodose line ranged from 40% to 60% with a mean of 49.43% ,and isocenter ranged from 2 to 16 with a mean of9.24. Results: The mean follow-up was 14.31 months(6~34 months). The volume decreased in 23 cases, remained stablein 30 cases, and enlarged in 5 cases. Central enhancement decreased in 31 cases, boundary became obscure in 12 cases, andperitumor brain edema appeared in 19 patients(7 with and 12 without symptom). Diffuse peritumor brain edema existed in7 patients with and 4 patients without symptom by image study. Local edema existed in 8 patients. Conclusion: Images aftergamma knife radiosurgery not only dynamically offer tumor changes and determine the effectiveness of treatment, but alsohelp find the peritumor edema and offer early treatment.
