Abstract:The mechanical models and measurements of low frequency internal friction in solids are discussed and described in this paper. There are anelasticity and viscoelasticity internal friction in solid. Free-decay and forced vibration methods can be used to measure the low frequency internal friction. Two-parameter and three-parameter mechanical models can be used to describe the internal friction of materials but they have their limitations. No appropriate mechanical model can be used to describe viscoelasticity internal friction, especially non-linear viscoelasticity.
