Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of the communication-listening-empathy-support multi-dimensional nursing model on negative emotions and self-care ability of elderly patients undergoing cataract surgery. Methods A total of 328 elderly patients who underwent phacoemulsification for cataract at the department of ophthalmology of Kaifeng Central Hospital from June 2021 to February 2025 were selected as the research subjects and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, with 164 cases in each group.Patients in the control group received routine nursing care, while those in the observation group received the communication-listening-empathy-support multi-dimensional nursing model in addition to the routine care. The negative emotions before and after surgery,self-care ability before and after intervention, quality of life on the first day of hospitalization and three months after surgery, and nursing satisfaction were compared between two groups. Results Seven days and three months after surgery, the scores of the self-rating anxiety scale(SAS)and self-rating depression scale(SDS)in both groups were lower than those before surgery, and the scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).After the intervention, the scores of the exercise of self-care agency scale(ESCA)in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Three months after surgery, the scores of the low vision quality of life questionnaire(LVQOL)in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The total satisfaction rate of nursing in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion The communication-listening-empathy-support multi-dimensional nursing model can effectively improve the negative emotions of elderly patients undergoing cataract surgery, enhance their self-care ability, improve the quality of life of low vision patients, and increase patient satisfaction with nursing care.
