Abstract:Objective To evaluate the feasibility of preparing three types of blood products from insufficient whole blood. Methods A total of 98 bags of insufficient whole blood ranging from 180 to 269 mL collected by Dongguan Central Blood Station from February 2023 to February 2024 were randomly selected and divided into two groups.Among them,a group collected 221 to 269 mL of insufficient whole blood and first prepared it into whole blood that met the corresponding specification standards.Another group collected 180 to 220 mL of whole blood.A total of 98 1 U bags of leukocyte-reduced suspended red blood cells,60 1 U bags of fresh frozen plasma, and 38 1 U bags of cryoprecipitated coagulation factors were prepared in the two groups. All blood varieties were divided into two groups. The blood products prepared by removing the maintenance fluid and part of the whole blood with a collection volume of 221-269 mL of whole blood were classified as group 1,and the blood varieties directly prepared by collecting 180-220 mL of whole blood were classified as group 2.The quality inspection results of the three blood products were analyzed and compared. Results The volume and hemoglobin(Hb)content of group 2 were lower than those of group 1,but the qualified rate of volume was higher than that of group 1,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the volume of fresh frozen plasma, plasma protein content, factor Ⅷ content and the qualification rate of each index between the two groups(P>0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the volume of cold precipitation coagulation factors, fibrinogen content, factor Ⅷ content and the qualified rates of each index between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion It is feasible to prepare leukocyte-reduced suspended red blood cells and cryoprecipitate coagulation factors using insufficient whole blood, which can effectively reduce blood waste. However, during the collection and preparation process, certain measures should also be taken to unify the preparation standards of insufficient blood, thereby improving the quality of blood products. It provides a new focus and scientific reference basis for improving the quality control of insufficient blood products.
