Abstract:Objective To investigate and analyze the prevalence, the main risk factors and the quality of life of acne among junior high school students in Luohu District,Shenzhen City, and to provide references for the prevention and treatment of acne among junior high school students. Methods A stratified cluster sampling survey method was adopted to randomly select 1402 junior high school students in Luohu District,Shenzhen City.Data on acne prevalence and influencing factors were collected through a combination of clinical diagnoses by dermatologists and questionnaire surveys. Results A total of 1402 junior high school students were investigated in this study. The overall prevalence of acne was 61.7%(865/1402).Among them, the overall prevalence rate for males was 65.5%(492/751),and for females,it was 57.3%(373/651).The comparison of the total prevalence rates between males and females showed a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).At the overall level,Cardiff acne disability index(CADI)scores were significantly higher in males than in females(P<0.001),when comparing with individual acne grades(grade Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ),although the scores of men were generally higher than those of females, the difference was not statistically significant.Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that insufficient sleep(OR=1.179)and milk and dairy products in the diet(OR=1.156)were risk factors for acne(P<0.05),sweet foods may increase the risk of acne(OR=1.104),a light diet(OR=0.834)and insufficient facial cleansing(OR=0.852)were protective factors for the onset of acne(P<0.05).Conclusion The prevalence rate of acne among junior high school students in Luohu District,Shenzhen City is relatively high, and the cognitive level of acne among this group is still relatively low.The risk factors for acne in their lifestyle and dietary habits include insufficient sleep and a diet of milk and dairy products.Acne has a certain impact on the quality of life of junior high school students and is positively correlated with the severity of acne.
