Abstract:Objective To evaluate the utilization of Chinese patent medicines in the gynecological outpatient department of Shenzhen Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine through post-prescription review, aiming to understand their prescribing patterns and provide references for rational clinical use. Methods A total of 1800 prescriptions for Chinese patent medicines issued from the prescription comment system in the gynecological outpatient department of Shenzhen Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine Hospital between September 2023 and February 2024 were randomly extracted from the prescription review system for evaluation. The causes of irrational prescriptions were analyzed, and corresponding improvement measures were proposed. Results Among the 1800 prescriptions reviewed, the average number of drugs per prescription was 1.25,with an average cost of 74.57 yuan per prescription. The evaluation identified 1747 and 53(2.94%)irrational ones.Among the irrational prescriptions,1(1.89%)was non-compliant,51(96.22%)were classified as inappropriate medication, and 1(1.89%)was an overprescription. The main issues included missing or incomplete clinical diagnoses, inappropriate indications, incorrect dosage or administration, and prescriptions without proper indications. Conclusion The use of Chinese patent medicines in the gynecological outpatient department is generally standardized, but some irrational prescribing practices persist. It is recommended that Western medicine practitioners enhance their knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)theory, and the pharmacy department should implement a pre-prescription review system to further improve the rational use of Chinese patent medicines in the hospital.
