Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment for COVID-19:A Single-center Retrospective Study

Abstract：Objective To explore the differences in efficacy between integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine treatment for corona virus disease 2019(COVID-19)by conducting a retrospective study on asymptomatic and mild cases.Methods The clinical data of patients with asymptomatic and mild COVID-19 who were discharged from Qingdao Third People's Hospital between October 11,2020 and May 30,2021 were collected.A retrospective study was conducted on their basic information,clinical symptoms,traditional Chinese medicine syndromes,and auxiliary examinations.The patients were grouped according to treatment methods,forming a traditional Chinese medicine group(pure traditional Chinese medicine treatment,35 cases),an arbidol group(traditional Chinese medicine combined with arbidol treatment,37 cases),and a favipiravir group(traditional Chinese medicine combined with favipiravir treatment,38 cases).The statistical analysis was performed to determine if there were differences among the three groups in terms of hospitalization days,negative conversion days,recurrence rate of positive and negative results,re-positive rate,COVID-19 antibody levels,and infection indicators.Results There was no statistically significant difference in white blood cell count,lymphocyte count,immunoglobulin(Ig)M,and IgG before and after treatment among the three groups(P>0.05).There was no statistically significant difference among the three groups in terms of negative conversion days,hospitalization days,re-positive rate,and recurrence of positive and negative results(P>0.05).Conclusion In the treatment of COVID-19 patients,there was no statistical difference in terms of hospitalization time,negative conversion days,and re-positive rate when comparing the combined use of arbidol or favipiravir with pure traditional Chinese medicine treatment.
