Abstract:Objective To study the effect and safety of transcutaneous acupuncture point electrical stimulation in the treatment of drug-induced constipation in schizophrenia. Methods A total of 60 patients with schizophrenia and drug-induced constipation admitted to Third People's Hospital of Zhongshan from July 2021 to September 2022 were selected and randomly divided into two groups, with 30 cases in each group.Patients in the control group were treated with oral laxatives as needed.Patients in the observation group received transcutaneous electrical stimulation at the Tianshu and Zusanli acupoints(paired acupoints on the same side). The constipation severity scale(CSS)was used to evaluate the efficacy at the end of the 1st,2nd,and 4th weeks of intervention. Results The CSS scores of the patients in the observation group decreased with the increase of treatment time, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).However,although the CSS scores of the control group decreased with the increase of treatment time, the differences were not statistically significant(P>0.05).After 2 and 4 weeks of treatment, the CSS scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).No significant adverse reactions were observed in both groups during the treatment. Conclusion Transcutaneous acupuncture point electrical stimulation has a certain efficacy on drug-induced constipation in schizophrenia.
