Clinical Efficacy of Clotrimazole Vaginal Tablets Combined with Shehuang Lotion in the Treatment of Vulvovaginal Candidiasis

Abstract：Objective To investigate the efficacy of the combination of clotrimazole vaginal tablets and shehuang lotion in the treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis(VVC).Methods Eighty VVC patients admitted to Nanjing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine from January 2019 to December 2023 were selected as research subjects.They were divided according to a lottery method into an observation group and a control group,with 40 cases in each group.The control group was treated with clotrimazole vaginal tablets,while the observation group was treated with clotrimazole vaginal tablets combined with shehuang lotion.The clinical efficacy,duration of clinical symptoms associated with external genital itching and redness,abnormal vaginal discharge,lower back and abdominal pain,painful urination and frequent urination,as well as changes in vaginal routine and cleanliness before and after treatment were compared between the two groups.Results The total effective rate of the observation group(97.5%)was higher than that of the control group(82.5%).The observation group had shorter relief times for external genital itching,lower back and abdominal pain,abnormal vaginal discharge,urinary pain and urinary frequency compared to the control group.After treatment,the leukocyte counts and vaginal pondus hydrogenii(pH)of the two groups were significantly decreased,and the indexes of the observation group was lower than those of the control group.After treatment,the percentage of vaginal cleanliness level I and II in both groups of patients increased significantly,and the indexes of the observation group was higher than the control group.The percentage of vaginal cleanliness level III and IV decreased significantly,and the observation group was lower than those of the control group.The above differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion For VVC patients,adding shehuang lotion on the basis of conventional clotrimazole vaginal tablets can improve its clinical efficacy and quickly relieve clinical symptoms,which may be related to shehuang lotion's bactericidal and anti-inflammatory,bacterial growth inhibition,improvement of vaginal inflammatory response and pH,and improvement of vaginal cleanliness.
