The Impact of Du Meridian Tendon Acupuncture Combined with Massage on Lumbar Function and Quality of Life in Patients with Lumbar Disc Herniation

Abstract:Objective To explore the impact of Du Meridian Tendon acupuncture combined with massage on lumbar function and quality of life in patients with lumbar disc herniation(LDH).Methods A total of 100 LDH patients admitted to Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from December 2022 to May 2024 were selected and randomly divided into a control group(50 cases)and an observation group(50 cases)using a random number table.The control group received massage treatment,while the observation group received Du Meridian Tendon acupuncture combined with massage treatment.The therapeutic effects,lumbar pain level,serum inflammatory markers,lumbar function,and quality of life were compared between the two groups.Results The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05);the numeric rating scale(NRS)score for pain,the serum levels of interleukin-1β(IL-1β),matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2),and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)in the observation group were lower than those in the control group after 2 weeks of treatment.The Japanese Orthopaedic Association(JOA)score for lumbar function and the World Health Organization quality of life scale-brief form questionnaire(WHOQOL-BREF)scores in the observation group were higher than those in the control group at one month of follow-up after treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion The treatment of LDH with Du Meridian Tendon acupuncture combined with massage is effective,it can reduce lumbar pain,decrease inflammatory responses,and improve lumbar function and quality of life.
