The Impact of the Combination of Sanfu Patch and Baduanjin Exercise on Pulmonary Function and Quality of Life in Elderly COPD Patients

Abstract：Objective To explore the impact of the combination of Sanfu Patch and Baduanjin exercise on pulmonary function and quality of life in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods A total of 62 COPD patients admitted to the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Jingdezhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from December 2021 to December 2023 were selected and divided into a control group(31 cases)and an observation group(31 cases)according to a random number table.Patients in the control group were given Baduanjin exercise intervention,while patients in the observation group were treated with the combination of Sanfu Patch and Baduanjin exercise.The pulmonary function indicators[forced vital capacity(FVC),forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1)as a percentage of the predicted value],psychological status[profile of mood states(POMS)score],6-minute walking distance,quality of life COPD assessment test(CAT)score,and adverse reactions during the intervention were compared between the two groups before and after the intervention.Results After the intervention,the FVC and FEV1 as a percentage of the predicted value in both groups were improved compared to before the intervention,and the observation group had higher values of FVC and FEV1 as a percentage of the predicted value than the control group,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The 6-minute walking distance in the observation group was longer than that in the control group after the intervention,with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).The scores of POMS and CAT in the observation group were lower than those in the control group after the intervention,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Conclusion The combination of Sanfu Patch and Baduanjin exercise can improve pulmonary function,psychological status,exercise tolerance,and quality of life in elderly COPD patients.
