Observation on the Curative Effect of Wax Hot Ironing Combined with Acupoint Electrical Stimulation on Upper Limb Dysfunction after Stroke

Abstract：Objective To observe the clinical effect of wax hot ironing combined with percutaneous acupoint electrical stimulation on upper limb dysfunction after stroke.Methods A total of 91 patients with upper limb dysfunction after stroke admitted to Henan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from April 2019 to February 2021 were randomly divided into an observation group(46 cases)and a control group(45 cases)using a random number table method.The control group received conventional rehabilitation treatment,and the observation group received traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)wax hot ironing combined with percutaneous acupoint electrical stimulation on the basis of the treatment of the control group.The TCM syndrome score,Fugl-Meyer assessment(FMA)score,modified Ashworth scale(MAS)score and modified Barthel index(MBI)score were observed before and after the two groups of patients,and the difference of efficacy between the two groups was compared.Results The total effective rate of the observation group was 93.48%(43/45),higher than that of control group 75.56%(34/45),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment,the TCM syndrome scores(the scores of limb pain,limb numbness,limb intensity and urgency,spasm and heavy fatigue)in the observation group were lower than those in the control group,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment,the FMA and MBI scores in the observation group were higher than those in the control group,while MAS score was lower,with statistical significances(P<0.05).No obvious adverse reactions occurred in both groups during treatment.Conclusion Wax hot ironing combined with percutaneous acupoint electrical stimulation is effective in the treatment of upper limb dysfunction after stroke,which can effectively improve clinical symptoms,relieve spasticity,improve upper limb motor ability and improve daily living ability.
