Abstract:Objective To explore the intervention effect of acupuncture combined with external use of Yao medicine on functional recovery and pain in stroke patients with shoulder-hand syndrome(SHS).Methods From January 2022 to December 2023,80 stroke SHS patients admitted to Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were randomly divided into two groups,40 cases in each group. The control group received conventional acupuncture, while the observation group received conventional acupuncture combined with external use of Yao medicine, both for 4 weeks. The clinical efficacy, pain level, upper limb function, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome score, electromyography indicators, edema score, and safety were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).After treatment, the visual analogue scale(VAS)score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, and the Fugl-Meyer assessment(FMA)score was higher than that of the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).After treatment, the main symptoms, secondary symptoms, and total score of TCM syndrome in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).After treatment, the sensory and motor nerve conduction velocity of the median nerve in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, and the edema score was lower than that in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).No significant adverse reactions were observed in both groups. Conclusion Acupuncture combined with external use of Yao medicine is safe and effective in treating stroke patients with SHS,which is beneficial for reducing shoulder pain and edema, and improving upper limb motor function.
