Exploring the Pathways to Improve Resource Allocation Efficiency in Clinical Departments Based on DEA-Malmquist Index Analysis

Abstract：Objective To evaluate the efficiency of resource allocation in clinical departments,and provide suggestions for internal resource distribution,resource utilization efficiency improvement,and discipline development in hospitals.Methods Taking the medical data from 32 clinical departments of the Grade A tertiary hospital S in Shenzhen and three other sample hospitals'H department from 2019 to 2023 as the object,the study selected the number of medical staff,the number of beds,and total assets as input indicators for evaluating the efficiency of resource allocation,and the total number of patient visits,total medical income,and bed occupancy rate as output indicators.The efficiency of resource allocation in departments was assessed,and effective ways to improve the efficiency of resource allocation in departments were explored.The data envelopment analysis(DEA)and Malmquist index analysis were used to evaluate the resource allocation efficiency of departments,and the effective ways to improve the efficiency of resource allocation in departments was explored.Results The sample department of H discipline had a relatively low efficiency of resource allocation,and the resources investment not being fully utilized.Moreover,the resource allocation efficiency had declined in recent years.Conclusion Resource allocation should be adapted to the level of discipline development;coordinate the integration of regional medical resources;strengthen the construction of talent echelons and technological applications to enhance the healthy and sustainable development of departments.
