Abstract:Objective To investigate DNA excision repair cross-complementing gene-1 (ERCC1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression levels in gastric cancer (GC) and evaluate the correlation between two proteins. Methods Immunohistochemistry was performed to detect the expression of ERCC1 and COX-2 in 239 GC cases, and analyzed the association between ERCC1 and COX-2 expression levels and clinicopathologic parameters. Results ERCC1 and COX-2 expression levels were significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis (P <0.05), while not associated with tumor size, location, depth of invasion and tumor differentiation (P>0.05). The positive expression rate of COX-2 in GC patients with HP infection was 86.5%, higher than those without HP infection. No correlation was found between two proteins. Conclusion Both ERCC1 and COX-2 were related with tumor progression, which may serve as valuable markers for determining biological behavior in GC. However , they did not show positive interaction.
