Abstract:Objective To study the effect of interleukin 17A (IL-17A) in the pathogenesis of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods All subjects were divided into MS group A (mild RRMS patients,EDSS score < 5 points), MS group B (serious RRMS patients, EDSS score > 5 points) and control group. Thelevels of IL-17A in the peripheral serum and cerebrospinal fluid were determined by ELISA method. Results Bothin the serum and the cerebrospinal fluid, the level of IL-17A in the MS group B was greater than that in the MSgroup A and the level of IL-17A in the MS group A was greater than that in the control group. Pearson correlationanalysis showed that the level of IL-17A in the serum is positively correlated to that in the cerebrospinal fluid (r =0.445 and P = 0.049 for the MS group A, r = 0.968 and P = 0.000 for the MS group B). Conclusion IL-17Aplays a potential role in the pathogenesis of MS. The level of IL-17A is associated with patient′s condition.
