Abstract:Herpes zoster is primarily caused by varicella-zoster virus(VZV)infection, which is characterized by occult infection and latency—features highly analogous to the"latent pathogens"in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).From a TCM perspective, the onset of herpes zoster is closely linked to the internal latency of pathogens.Based on the Latent Pathogen Theory and clinical practice, this paper systematically analyzes the disease characteristics, location of latent pathogens, and the pathogenesis evolution during the prodromal, acute, and postherpetic phases. It further explores the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment strategies for this condition, aiming to provide references for clinical diagnosis and treatment of herpes zoster.
