Abstract:Objective To explore the effective integration of clinical practice and professional science popularization in dermatology undergraduate teaching during the new media era. Methods 56 undergraduate students were selected from our five-year clinical medicine program in 2020 as the research subjects, randomly divided into a research group and a control group,28 students each.Control group:To complete the core theoretical course from the Dermatology and Venereology textbook using lecture-based learning(LBL)and engaged in clinical internships. In the research group, the core theory course focused on guiding students to outline the key points and precautions for diagnosis and treatment of diseases during the teaching process.Subsequently,a problem-based teaching method(PBL)to assist with dermatology science popularization videos was employed, improving students'ability to analyze and solve problems, thereby guiding students to conduct science popularization towards patients.Finally,case-based learning(CBL)were implemented in conjunction with teacher demonstrations during the internship, encouraging students to conduct science popularization with patients. Results The control group scored(82.56±7.11)in the theoretical course exam, while the research group scored(86.85±5.53).The result of research group scored was significantly higher than the control group(P<0.05).Mini-CEX scores showed that students in the research group excelled in five aspects:interview skills, professional quality, clinical judgment, communication ability, and overall performance, with scores of(8.04±1.33),(8.10±1.04),(7.13±1.08),(8.44±1.28),and(8.45±1.88)respectively.These scores were significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).During the clinical internship period of the research group students, they conducted science popularization for outpatient patients, and the average score in the patient satisfaction survey questionnaire was above 4 points. Conclusions This educational reform project aims to organically combine core theories, clinical internships, and professional science popularization. It effectively improved theoretical exam scores, clinical practice abilities, and communication skills with patients while stimulating students'initiative and enhancing teaching effectiveness. This approach can be further promoted in teaching work across other departments.
