Abstract:Melasma is a type of facial acquired pigmentation skin disease, which mainly affects women of childbearing age.Conventional treatment methods include sun protection, avoidance of predisposing factors, drug and non-drug treatments, and the application of whitening efficacy products. However, these methods have certain limitations and deficiencies in terms of efficacy, making it difficult to meet the patients'needs.Microneedling therapy, also known as percutaneous collagen induction therapy,is a minimally invasive treatment involving fine acupuncture into the skin to produce micro-damage,thereby inducing epidermal differentiation and skin structural remodeling, and promoting skin transdermal absorption.Since the application of microneedle in 1995,more and more studies have confirmed the use of microneedling therapy in dermatology, especially in the treatment of scars, wrinkles and pigmented skin diseases. At present, microneedling therapy has demonstrated satisfactory therapeutic efficacy, safety and cost performance due to its unique mechanism of action, gradually establishing itself as a therapeutic option for melasma. This review discusses the mechanism of microneedling therapy for melasma and summarizes its research status in the clinical treatment of melasma, aiming at provide evidence of the safety and effectiveness of microneedling therapy for melasma.
