Abstract:Objective To explore the value of dermoscopy in the diagnosis of juvenile xanthogranuloma. Methods It was a retrospective study which analyzed the clinical, dermoscopic and pathological data of 20 cases with juvenile xanthogranuloma from July 2018 to March 2021 in our department. Results There were 12 males and 8 females. The average age at onset was 2.12±4.29 years old.Typical lesions are yellow, red or brown papules with a diameter of several millimetres to several centimetres in size, which have the hard and smooth surface. The skin lesions of 20 patients were single.Histopathologic examination showed well-circumscribed mass composed of foamy histiocytes inflammatory cells and Touton giant cells in the dermis.Among 20 patients the dermoscopic patterns of juvenile xanthogranuloma were yellow-orange and/or pink-red structureless color with vascular structures. The setting sun appearance were present in seventeen patients(85%),The clouds of paler yellow globules were present in thirteen patients(65%)whitish streak were present in five patients(25%).Vascular structures were observed in an irregular distribution, with linear vessels(60%),dotted vessels(55%),and branched vessels(35%).Conclusion Juvenile xanthogranuloma has characteristic dermatoscopic patterns which can be used as an auxiliary diagnostic technique of juvenile xanthogranuloma.
