A rare case of multiple keratoacanthomas treated with oral acitretin
Abstract:A 78-year-old female presented with multiple plaques on both the dorsal hands and wrists for 8 months. Physical examination showed that: multiple skin colored or light red crateriform plaques scattered on both the dorsal hands and wrists, and the plaques were covered by yellow corneous material. Histopathologic examination revealed hyperkeratosis with parakeratosis, an exo-endophytic growth pattern with a central crater like structure containing keratinous material. Within the superficial dermis, there was an infiltration of mixture inflammatory cells. A diagnosis of multiple keratoacanthomas was confirmed. The patient was treated with oral acitretin and the lesions were significantly improved after 2 months. During a follow-up period of 4 months, the disease had no relapse.
