Abstract:Natural killer(NK) cells is an important component of the innate immune system, whose major functions are cytotoxicity and cytokine production. Over activation or dysfunction of NK cells may be associated with pathogenesis of some diseases. The local tissue microenvironment, unique cellular interactions and different stages of corresponding diseases shape the properties and function of NK cells. Previous studies have shown that skin NK cells have potential role in the progression of autoimmune skin diseases like psoriasis, alopecia areata and pemphigus vulgaris. In patients with psoriasis and alopecia areata, NK cells' pathophysiologic role seems to be especially the production of IFN-γ. NK cells overactivation can be found in patients with pemphigus vulgaris. Many details are still unclear, however, some evidence of research in NK cells provides new ideas for these immune dermatoses. The role of NK cells in psoriasis, alopecia areata and pemphigus vulgaris has been reviewed in this article.
